The horses that come to HBHER have often had some troubling experiences. We strive to give them the time and space they need to recover from whatever they have endured. This often means that horses new to our program do not participate in any training or lessons for the first month. The second month we do a slow introduction to handling on the ground and then assess their knowledge about riding. Only then do we shift our focus to training in the following months (around the third and fourth months). Our goal is for horses to be ready for adoption and to participate in lessons to help them find their person in months five and six, but every horse is an individual. Some are ready sooner, some take longer. The timeline is up to them.

Adoption fees are typically as follows:

• Companion horse - $500

• Rideable horse over 20 years old - $1000

• Rideable horse under 20 years old - $1500
